Diving Sat and Sun (Sept 22 and 23) and camping Fri and Sat nights.
Join us for our annual Northern California Campout and Survey Extravaganza up in Sonoma County! It is a fun weekend of surveying, playing, and celebrating a successful season. We will attempt to survey 4 sites on Saturday and Sunday depending on the size group we get including: Gerstle Cove, Stillwater Cove, Ft. Ross, and Ocean Cove. Plan on doing two dives per day. Then we head back to camp together, feast, and relax. Bring your families, they can dive, hike, visit Fort Ross, and/or play on the beach while we survey.
If you are coming just for the day we will meet each morning in the small parking lot just outside Ocean Cove campground at 9am to discuss which sites everyone will be going to.
Accommodations:
-We will be camping at Ocean Cove Campground on Friday and Saturday nights. There are pit toilets and showers that take quarters and a small convenience store across the street. There is no cell phone service in the area so make all your plans and ask questions before your leave. We'll put up banners so that you can find our site. Camping is $20/car. Plan to pay $20 to get into the campsite, we'll pay you back. Do NOT tell the guy at the kiosk that you are here with Reef Check... he won't know what you are talking about and he is known to be grumpy.
Tanks:
-If you plan to do two dives a day you will need 4 tanks, as there is no place to get fills anywhere nearby. SSU Scuba Program however has offered to bring tanks for those in need. If you can bring 3-4 tanks for the two days we would be VERY grateful! If you want tanks brought for you, you need to let me know how many ASAP.
What to bring:
-All your dive gear including tanks (unless you put in an order with us) and a working flashlight, your survey gear (slate and tape)
-Camping gear, food, and drink for yourself, a dish to share for our potluck on Sat night if you want.
-$20 to get in to the campground. We'll pay you back.
-Please carpool if possible! We pay by the car to camp.
-Quarters for the shower ($2 for 5 min of hot water)

If you plan to collect abalone on this trip you need to have a current fishing license AND abalone report card. Please obtain these BEFORE arriving at the camp site as there is no place to buy them locally. Please review the current regulations on this site
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/abalone.asp and plan to bring your own approved ab iron and gauge. People usually go ab hunting on Friday or after the surveys on Saturday but you can go whenever you want.
