Hi Reef Checkers,
We are heading up to Sonoma to do some our our spring/summer surveys and to add some new abalone only surveys. DFG has been in real need of more abalone size/abundance data in this region especially after the invertebrate die-off last year. So on top of our usual abalone surveys on the invert transect of our surveys we are going to go to some abalone-only transects at some new sites. The sites that we do will largely depend on the conditions while we are there but possibilities include Fort Ross, Stillwater Cove, Ocean Cove, and Gerstle Cove. We plan to add abalone only in another section of Fort Ross.
We will get some campsites at Stillwater Cove Regional Park for Tues and Wed nights that everyone is welcome to stay in. We'll buy the camping, parking, firewood, and fixings for smores. You bring your own food. Just let me know if you are going to camp so that I know how many sites to get. Bill and Rob can bring tanks for those who don't have any so let us know if you need any. Otherwise no need to bring all the tanks you'll need for 2 days of diving (4) since the closest place to get fills is an hour away. For those of you who don't camp, you are welcome to come for just one day or there is the Fort Ross Lodge just up the road.
