Monterey Reef Check trainees,
It was great getting to spend the weekend with you all at the aquarium during the first weekend of your training. You all hung in there for some long lectures and your enthusiasm and great questions made my job easy and fun. I can't wait to get in the ocean so we can practice all your newly learned survey skills. Great job on your species ID quizzes!

Expect an email from me reminding you of all the details for the dive weekend a few days before it starts. See you soon!

Cheers,
Megan

Hi Megan, see you Saturday and thanks for all the fish!

Would you recommend that we put on our thermal protection before or after getting on the boat?

We generally load the boat and then suit up in the parking lot before boarding.

I came down to Monterey a little early to visit the aquarium and relax. Sun came out before noon today--I'm wearing short sleeves now, but tomorrow is forecast to be a couple of degrees cooler. The seas are much flatter than yesterday and the swell is forecast to decrease. It'll be a great weekend for diving!

Lovers is still showing increased bacterial counts so I assume our site will be located elsewhere :-).

Thanks to Jan and Megan for a lot of diving, learning, and good fun!

For Dida, Jan, Megan, and others who look like they have been hanging high, please see my drysuit seal page at http://www.newt.com/wohler/diving/.

Also on that page is a Monterey weather page inspired by Chuck's page (which needs some maintenance). If you chase the link with the photo of me with the gorgonians or the Monterey, 2006 link and go to the bottom, you'll see my description of Gorgonian Rock (that has at least 30 red gorgonians) that I discovered along with Glenn Davis and Bill Gomez. I think that picture of me is almost 35 m deep.

While Jan watched over Bruce during his fish check-out, it appeared that Jan dropped something so I popped it in my pocket and forgot about it. It looked like something that might have been covering the point on his tape. However, upon closer inspection, it might just be a vertebrate from a large fish that was tossed about. Jan?
