Hi Reef Checkers,
Some exciting news here. Due to some boat and schedule issues over the last couple of weeks, we are now offering a few new trips to the Northern Channel Islands during the week. Perfect for those folks who may have a flexible schedule, those who want to play hooky, teachers on summer break or those divers who are students with a light schedule.

These day trips will take place on the Raptor out of Ventura and our destination will be Anacapa or Santa Cruz Island. Exact details to be confirmed shortly, but roughly, we will board the boat at around 7:00 am and head out to the islands to do 3-4 dives. Our plan is to return to the dock by around 5:30. Meals/drinks are provided as are steel tanks (although you can bring your own tanks if you prefer). You provide all your scuba gear including weights and all your survey gear. I will have a ton of datasheets!

Details:
Thursday June 28th
Day trip to Santa Cruz or Anacapa for Reef Check Surveys (approximately 7 am to 5:30 pm - exact details posted shortly)
On the Raptor out of Ventura: http://www.raptordive.com/index.html

How often do you get out to the islands for a survey dive? It's a rare opportunity, so I hope some of you can join us!

Suggested Donation:
Reef Check is striving to use our resources wisely. To help support the program, it is suggested that RCCA divers on boat charters may help defray the cost of supplies and boat costs by making a $30 donation to Reef Check - but really, any amount helps support the cause if you are able to do so. However, Reef Check will never turn away divers that either can't or choose not to donate. If you are interested, you can donate online by clicking on the link "Count Me In" under the Dive Calendar heading from the Reef Check California Home Page http://reefcheck.org/rcca/rcca_home.php

As we have a lot of work to do in one day, it's crucial we have a large team of divers to help accomplish our goals. Don't miss this unique opportunity to dive some amazing sites in the Channel Islands! This is a fun day - a great way to get out to the islands, connect with other Reef Checkers and enjoy a day doing boat dives during the week! Sounds like a perfect summer day to me!

Sign up today as this trip has a boat maximum and spots will fill up soon.

Colleen:

I had a great time yesterday on the PV Party Boat. As always, the sites are very pretty and
have a great deal of life. Brett Flanders is a good dive buddy. I did my Sci-Dive course at the Aquarium with in in 2010 and it's nice to have the opportunity to dive we him each year. We work very well together and have good U/W communication.

Please count me in for the Raptor on Thursday, June 28th. I'm getting into it!

Pamela

PS ---you should see my sunburned face. I lost my hat on the boat and found it under a half dozen parkas at the end of the voyage. I won't make that mistake again.
