O.C. survey site

Although I'm not a Reef Check diver, I follow your weekly posts and have written about RCCA and the international organization for local and national diving publications. Not sure if you're aware but an artificial reef is located roughly five miles south of the Dana Point Harbor. The reef was created after the A.C.E., a 58-foot, steeled-hulled drum seiner (commercial bait boat) rolled and went down in a nasty storm five years ago. It was recently buoyed by a team from Beach Cities Scuba and, as of August of this year, became a recreational dive site. Some of you may have seen images posted on several sites/message boards after our December 12 dive.
Laying on her port side with her mast pointing away from shore, the A.C.E. is heavily coated in strawberry and white seaplume anemones. Calico and black sea bass are abundant, and what looks like rust in several areas is a large number (possibly hundreds) of rockfish that have staked their claim on the vessel. It begins at 95 feet and hits the ocean floor at 114 feet. If you haven't already, I recommend taking a look. Dave Espinosa, editor of Scuba Diving, replied: "That’s a beautiful wreck."

Hi MShootz,

We would love to survey this site but our protocol & safety guide lines only let us survey down to 60 ft.
