California Marine Life Protection Act Initiative Announcement



What: Round 2 draft marine protected area (MPA) proposals developed by the MLPA North Coast Regional Stakeholder Group (NCRSG)

When: Now available!

Where: On the MLPA website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/mpaproposals_nc.asp. The available materials include:

Description of MPAs - Details the name, proposed allowed uses, site-specific rationale, and other attribute information for proposed MPAs
Maps - A set of maps for each Round 2 draft MPA proposal that show the boundaries of proposed MPAs
Habitat Calculations - A document that shows the amount of each key habitat captured in each proposed MPA
Consideration of Existing MPAs - A document that describes whether the MPA proposal recommends to retain, modify or remove each of the five existing state MPAs
Special Closures - Documents describing proposed special closures associated with each draft MPA proposal, including maps
In the coming days and weeks, additional materials will be made available on the MLPA website, including evaluations of the Round 2 draft MPA proposals.

More information is also available through MarineMap, the online mapping tool, at http://northcoast.marinemap.org/ under the "MPA Proposals" tab. The names of the draft MPA proposals and associated special closures in MarineMap are:
