09.16-9.17 Sonoma Campout 2

Postby AnnaOcean » Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:00 pm

Hi Team!

I hope you are all getting excited for the Somona Campout this weekend!

Diving
We will meet at 8:00 am on Saturday, September 16th at Ocean Cove Campground. From there we will break into teams and move to the dive sites. All of the sites have parking that is far away from the site itself. We have found it best to carpool as much as possible and have gear packed into bags or boxes that can be quickly thrown into a truck and shuttled down to the beach. Be advised Sonoma diving general involves a fair amount of gear hauling, beach (sometimes rocky) entries and exits, and significant surface swims.

Tanks
There is no place to fill tanks on the Sonoma coast so please bring all the tanks you plan to use for the weekend. We will be doing two dives a day so you will need four tanks. Caro talked to John with Marin dive center and he has plenty of tanks to rent so you can pick them up on your way there since it is on the way north from the freeway for most of us. Their number is 415-479-4332 and the shop is located at 3765 Redwood Hwy San Rafael, CA 94903.

Camping
We will be camping at Ocean Cove Campground. You are welcome to arrive on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. I will be arriving around 4pm on Friday to check into the campsites if you arrive before I do you are welcome to check in. I will hang the Reef Check California banner and a note on the message board at the front. You will need to bring all of your camping gear plus food! Let's plan on having a potluck on Saturday night so please bring something to share. If you are not into camping there are a few hotels such as the nearby Ocean Cove Lodge

Important reminders
The Sonoma Coastline is a remote place. Therefore your cells phone will most likely not work so writing down any directions you will need prior to leaving is a great idea. There is only one little store in the area so I suggest bringing all the food you need.

Abalone
It is abalone season so if you want to dive for abalone please bring all your ab diving gear including licenses, gauge, bar, and float. If you never ab dove and would like to learn how I'd be happy to teach you. Just make sure you have a license. shops, camping/outdoor stores, or convenience stores close by so I suggest making your list and checking it twice. Also, bring in any spare dive parts and gear is a good idea. It is Abalone season so if you want to dive for Abalone please bring all your Ab diving gear including licenses, gauge, bar and float.

Dan,

What do you mean it is NOT abalone season? You saying we cannot ab dive?

I'm in- but I can only bring 2 tanks. Will there be a compressor like there was earlier this summer?
