09.09.18 Coral St shore survey

Join us for the fall survey of the Coral St urchin barrens. Located in Pacific Grove out towards the end of the peninsula, Coral St has been a barren since 2015. Prior to that, the site featured a thick kelp mat, and on the right day could be an amazing place to dive. Now, not so much. The site is l...

Re: 07.21.18 North Monastery - retry - DONE!

I'm pleased to report that conditons were much better today than they were 2 weeks ago, and we were able to get the survey done in one dive. Vis was mostly around 4m, although one team had 8m, at least for a while.

My thanks to everyone who came out today! Great work, team!

07.21.18 North Monastery - retry - DONE!

We had to wave off our first attempt at the site due to some ugly-looking surge, so we'll give it another try on: Saturday, July 21, metting up at 8:00 AM Monastery Beach is located off Route 1 in Carmel, about 1/2 mile north of the entrance to Pt Lobos. The northern half of the site is known for it...

Re: 07.07.18 North Monastery Survey

Looks like we're going to have a great turnout! If conditions are fair enough, we'll have an excellent opportunity to complete the survey in one dive, since we only do core transects here. The list so far: 1. David H 2. Robert K 3. Gena W 4. Gian 5. Gary H 6. Janina L (maybe) 7. Matt B 8. Bill B 9. ...

Hurray! Finally!

Thanks, guys. And thanks, Melanie, for giving it several tries.

The forecast isn't looking beautiful, but sometimes you get lucky (and sometimes not, of course). We do have a couple of fallback options if Coral is a no-go, either starting on Macabee or finishing up Breakwater.

So we'll see...

Re: ***Miscellaneous Volunteer opportunities*** (0 activities)

New season, new clean-up work! We got a good chunk of Breakwater done this morning - all the cores and half the fish - leaving just 6 fish-only transects, to be completed by June 14. The transects in question are fish 7-12, the two outer rows of fish transects. Headings 140/320. Depth for the outerm...

02.08.18 Presentation @ dive club meeting - Pleasanton

Hello everyone! I'm going to be giving a presentation on Reef Check at the monthly meeting of the Tri-Valley Dive Club (affiliated with Dive N' Trips, in Pleasanton) on Thursday, Feb. 8th. I'm told the club is mostly composed of local divers, so I'm planning on making this mostly a recruitment pitch...
