Re: ***Miscellaneous Volunteer opportunities*** (0 activities)

New season, new clean-up work! We got a good chunk of Breakwater done this morning - all the cores and half the fish - leaving just 6 fish-only transects, to be completed by June 14. The transects in question are fish 7-12, the two outer rows of fish transects. Headings 140/320. Depth for the outerm...

02.08.18 Presentation @ dive club meeting - Pleasanton

Hello everyone! I'm going to be giving a presentation on Reef Check at the monthly meeting of the Tri-Valley Dive Club (affiliated with Dive N' Trips, in Pleasanton) on Thursday, Feb. 8th. I'm told the club is mostly composed of local divers, so I'm planning on making this mostly a recruitment pitch...

Re: 10.15.17 Coral St shore survey

I'm pleased to report that the fall Coral St survey is mostly done; as of the evening of Monday Oct. 16 we have all the cores and half the fish transects completed. I'll post details of what remains to be done in the "Miscellaneous volunteer opportunities" thread. My thanks to Vince and Ro...

10.15.17 Coral St shore survey

Join us for our second Coral St survey of the year! Our first attempt was blown out (as was our first attempt at the spring survey), so we'll hope for better conditions next time around. Coral St has been an urchin barren since 2015, which makes the surveying easier, albeit more monotonous. We'll do...

With the forecast not looking too hot, we're going to cancel tomorrow's survey. They might be able to get it from the boat tomorrow; if not, stay tuned for a reschedule...

The remaining fish-only transects at Coral St and Breakwater have been done; both sites are now complete.

Re: 08.04.17 Breakwater shore survey

I'm pleased to report that we got almost all of the Breakwater survey done today, leaving just 4 fish transects to be done. The vis was marginal to mediocre (2.5-3.5m), but enough to work with, and the water was both super-calm, and warm (57F or so). Unlike some other sites, the reef looked to be in...

Re: ***Miscellaneous Volunteer opportunities*** (3 activites)

There are 4 fish-only transects left to be done at Breakwater, by Sept. 4. The transects are #13, 14, 15, 18. These are all on the inner half of Middle Reef, thus rather shallow, so I recommend doing them nearer to high tide than low. On the plus side, they're a very short swim from shore. #18 is th...

10.01.17 Coral St shore survey - cancelled

Join us for our second Coral St survey of the year! Coral St, which used to be a personal favorite of mine, has been an urchin barren since the spring of 2015. It's been sad seeing a site that used to feature a lush kelp mat and lots of bright, colorful cover turn into a monotonous moonscape, but it...
